Pigeons

Instead of picking up souvenirs when I travel (which I do a lot!), I take pictures of pigeons. In addition to being relatively ubiquitous, they’re also deeply misunderstood having started as pets before being unceremoniously abandoned to fend for themselves in cities, and I love capturing those now-consummate urbanites in their own little environments.

Below are some of my pigeon pictures, noting that not all of these photographs are the best artistically (many were taken as “target of opportunity” observations with my phone) and not all of my trips yielded pictures of pigeons. Still I had fun taking them, and when possible, I make it a game to get photos with the most iconic and identifiable backgrounds.

On the flip side, my least favorite part of traveling is always figuring out where I can safely eat as a celiac. For my own purposes (and those of anyone else looking for gluten free fare), I’ve started keeping a list of some of my favorites, though it is also a work in progress.
